Store Team Member

Job Details

As a Store Team Member at Milan Center Feed & Grain, you’ll be the friendly face helping our customers find exactly what they need for their farms, flocks, pets, and gardens. This hands-on role combines excellent customer service with retail operations in a welcoming, community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist customers with product selection, answering questions about animal feed, supplements, farm supplies, pet care items, birdseed blends, and more
  • Provide knowledgeable recommendations based on customers’ needs (e.g., for livestock, poultry, companion animals, or wildlife)
  • Operate the checkout system to process sales accurately and efficiently, handling cash, cards, and any special orders
  • Stock shelves, rotate inventory, and maintain organized, well-merchandised displays to ensure products are easy to find and appealing
  • Help with loading purchased items (such as heavy bags of feed or grain) into customers’ vehicles for a positive, helpful experience
  • Keep the store clean, organized, and safe, including sweeping, facing products, and assisting with general store upkeep

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy items repetitively (up to 50 lbs)
  • Reliable transportation to and from our location at 15402 Doty Road, New Haven, IN
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate order processing, inventory handling, and customer recommendations
  • Good communication skills to greet customers warmly, answer questions, and provide helpful product advice
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods during shifts
  • Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized store environment
  • Positive attitude and team-player mindset— we’re a small, family-oriented team that supports one another

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous retail, customer service, or farm/agricultural experience (helpful for understanding products like livestock feed, pet nutrition, birdseed, and farm supplies)
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions, measuring/custom mixing (if assisting in related areas), or breaking down orders
  • Familiarity with animals, farming, or rural living— a genuine interest in helping customers with their horses, cattle, poultry, pets, gardens, or wildlife needs goes a long way!
